Class K2

From Steam & Steel

The RSR Type C1'NST Class K2, also known as the Class K2 is the 0-6-2 saddle tank variant of the 0-6-0 Class K1. The locomotive was built by RSR and is designed for limited range uses such as shunting, yard work, and banking.

Boasting a very high weight of 42.9 tons and a tractive effort of 41991, the Class K2 is an ideal shunting engine for very heavy loads or on steep grades and is a highly capable banking engine. However, due to its limited fuel capacity (unless given a tender) and below average top speed, it is less suitable as a long distance mainline engine than its tender engine counterpart.

Tips and Tricks:

[edit | edit source]
  • The K2 is perfect for banking (helping broken down/stalled locomotives) on steep grades. It is also a suitable short-medium distance heavy freight engine, though the Class H2 may be more useful for longer trips due to its higher top speed and coal capacity than the K2.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • It is the first engine to have a nameplate on the side.
  • It is the first and only three-cylinder engine in the game.
  • When it is viewed in the shop, it has its own unique purple color.
  • It is one of the largest locomotives in the game, being longer than the Class H2 and slightly shorter than the Class H.
  • Weighing in at 42.9 tons, the Class K2 is the heaviest locomotive class in the game.
  • The Class K2's center pair of driving wheels are blind, lacking wheel flanges and guide spheres to allow the engine to take sharper turns without derailing.
